let my conceit calm my vanity - bright aboagye

the mirror

misleads

twists

morphs

elevates

the aura

beyond

its importance

just an illusion

maybe…….

was it not vanity

that led Dionysus to

his dead mother, Semele?

I’ll dress myself

in the garment of a chameleon’s star

display the rainbow shades of a peacock’s feathers

letting arrogance lay bed in my heart

until I decline — the way roses do

Influenced by Aja Monet & Akwaeke Emezi, Bright Aboagye is a Ghanaian who dreams of becoming a surrealist blues poet, writer and – with a passion for cooking – aspires to open a restaurant. Bright hopes that his works inspire other people just as there are no writing opportunities in Ghana.
